Flower Drawings
2021 - Mixed-media flower drawings (acrylic washes, colored pencil, and gouache) on Stonehenge paper
In the spring of 2021, I became enthralled with flowers and began to draw them in my sketchbook. This began with my own garden blooms and expanded to the native flowers that I have found on my walks along the small lake near my home. Many of these grow in large drifts and so it is easy to overlook the beauty and form of an individual flower. My current mixed-media drawings are contemplations on a single stem against loosely painted colorful backgrounds. I draw them as I find them - in bloom or after they have gone to seed. Each drawing is an ode to the moment and season in which it was found.
